Here in the Wild West – Tombstone Arizona

We are here in Tucson since we wanted to experience Tombstone (an hour from here) and visit the city.

But first, a few thoughts about our drive across Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona:

  • The landscape is vast and spread out
  • Wet desert smells odd
  • The desert is dusty
  • There are dust storms here
  • Windy conditions can last for days and caused the Van to shake constantly

Yesterday we drove down to Tombstone. Neither words nor photos can adequately describe what we experienced, except to say we had an awesome day and added a brilliant memory.

Everywhere we looked, the streets were filled with folks in full 1800’s western dress. They really took it seriously and it worked to create an incredible atmosphere.

By contrast, Lisa and I stood out like a couple of sore thumbs😆

Ed Schieffelin discovered silver in the San Pedro Valley in 1877-1878 which led to the founding of Tombstone.

We stopped by the Oriental Saloon to watch some recreations of famous gunfights that involved Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.

We went for a ride around town in a horse drawn wagon.

We had a delicious lunch at The Longhorn Restaurant.

Before we left Tombstone we paid a visit to Boothill Graveyard

We capped off the day by watching the movie Tombstone and cross referenced scenes, dialog and history😆

All in all, a fabulous day (an expression not to be uttered in Tombstone😆)!
