With some irony, here in the Smoky Mountains, we are at one of the few sites that we have visited that does not currently have a burn ban. And the difference is notable.

I am finally getting the hang of charcoal grilling. I’m still very much a novice, but I have been able to keep the charcoal hot enough to cook a couple of times now.
Therefore, using the grill has been great and we have actually had some good meals from it.

The strong urge to light and maintain a fire is an intrinsic part of homosapien DNA. Therefore many feel like you are not really ‘camping’ unless you have something burning nearby.
This is great in theory, but in practice it means that we permanently smell like overworked Firefighters during Wildfire Season. Its frankly a relief when it pours with rain and stops our neighboring Pyromaniacs in their tracks.

Oh yes, Everything about this way of living is ‘educational’ and challenging, isn’t it? Fun too, most of the time. Life choices to learn from as you go.
Seems you’re adapting to your new style very well.
Brings to mind our trip to Ontario, roughing it ‘tent camping’ had its humor and bloopers. Learning as we went including mistakes-not-to-make. As you will do, looking back, blend of time and distance, memories will be most gratifying.
Too, ways you’re documenting – thoughts and photos – would seem to stir keen interest among Brits.
Carry on. 💕
