Stage 3 – Home Sale – In for Sixteen Years – Out in Four Weeks

I created a spreadsheet to organize the processes leading up to our home sale (no surprise to those who know me). Oddly enough, the content of that file has become nostalgic reading for me, kinda like a journal. Every now and then I open the file and read though it and think: did we really do that?

We put our house up for sale on Friday February the 15th 2019 (almost exactly one year since Lisa’s kidney stone), by the following Thursday we sold it and we suddenly had only four weeks before we had to find somewhere else to live.

Saturday February 16th was a significant day for me personally. That was the day that Brad put up a ‘For Sale’ sign up in our front yard. This happened whilst we were in Louisville ‘Releasing’ my 30 pigeons to a new life. Also that day, a friend of mine stopped by to take my motorcycle to prepare it for sale. It was the last I’d see my birds and my motorcycle. At the time it seemed ok and not a big deal; now though, I do have a tinge of regret.

This enormous dumpster was for some scrap wood and nest boxes from the pigeon loft, and we though there would be plenty of space left in it.
However, we ended up filling it right up with stuff we did not need or could not sell.
Our Final Yard Sale (3/2/2019)

By Sunday evening we were ready to say goodbye to our home. It was not as emotional as we may have expected; in fact it ended with a funny moment. We said goodbye, got into Lisa’s car and drove away…only to suddenly realize that we had left my Jeep there! How embarrassing! We sheepishly drove back, and Lisa dropped me off so that I could collect my vehicle. We then headed to Best Realty to drop our keys off. Brad Travis happened to be there so we gave the keys to him.
