Stage 5 – Apartment – Transition to Small Space Living

The transition from the 2700 square feet of our house to 1200 in our apartment was not nearly as difficult as we had imagined. For me at least, ridding ourselves of the burden of maintaining a home, was a massive relief.

Our first night after leaving our house was actually spent in a hotel since we could not move into our apartment for a week. As with much of our experience up until that point, we actually really enjoyed the week at the Baymont Hotel. At that time both Lisa and I were working so getting up and ready for work was really strange. I quickly adapted to the breakfast bar; watching a different group of fellow breakfasters each morning was fascinating.

We were extremely fortunate to find a third/top floor apartment on the northern edge of town which met our needs perfectly. After living in town and half a mile from a rail road and I65, we were surprised at how quiet it was. Our larger furniture, including our bed was still in storage with Corvin’s so we had to spend a few nights on a blow-up mattress.

Our Stored Stuff Arrives (April 4, 2019)

Corvin’s In Town Moving were awesome. Despite all of our efforts to sell and give away stuff, we still had furniture that we could not use. This included an gigantic ‘Entertainment Center’.

We had to put the entertainment center in our garage since even if we had wanted to use it, there was no way it would fit into our apartment.

I had spent weeks trying to get rid of it. I put it up for sale at work (for some reason thought I could get some money for it), not a single bite. I put it on Facebook Market Place, also to no avail. Even Mike, who had taken every single thing we offered to him smiled and changed the subject when I mention it to him. Then several weeks after storing it and finally being fed up of it being in the way, we posted it on the neighborhood app, but this time we included a magic word in our post “FREE”. Literally within an hour of posting, we had a couple contact us and on their way to pick it up.
