Extraterrestrial Highway and Area 51

After we left Pahrump Wednesday (1/10), we took a detour to Extraterrestrial Highway.

We found what appeared to be The Black Mailbox. Then we found Extraterrestrial Highway.

We drove out of our way by a long stretch (2-1/2 hours) for this experience. The area is very remote and the few remnants of the flurry of interest in Area 51 created after the release of the movie Independents Day, have an air of desperation about them. That said, I came away glad that we took the time to visit Area 51.

Shortly after taking the photo of the warning sign stating that photos are prohibited, we stopped at The Black Mailbox. After a few minutes I noticed blue flashing lights on the road in the far distance. It was a cop flying down the highway at high speed. Naturally I thought he was coming after us for taking photos of the sign. Fortunately he sped by, leaving us law breakers to go on our way.
