Death Valley National Park

On Tuesday 1/9 we spent the day at Death Valley National Park in California / Nevada.

Badwater Basin – The lowest point in North America is a surreal landscape of vast salt flats. The basin sits 282 feet (86 m) below sea level where a temporary lake may form after heavy rainstorms.

.

Artist Palette – is a colorful rock formation.

.

Golden Canyon to Red Cathedral – We hiked into this area that was used by George Lucas as a film set for Star Wars a New Hope in 1977.

.

Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes – The location of Tatooine in Star Wars.

.

Dantes View – We reached this location 30 minutes before sunset. The steep upward gradient and twisty narrow road made the drive up pretty scary, the drive down in the dark was equally harrowing.

Wonderful photos Steven. You and Lisa will have so much to look back on when you recall your trip. We were travelling through Death Valley just after 9/11, never to be forgotten. Safe travels. xxx
