San Diego via Amtrac

There is an Amtrak station down the road from us, so we thought we’d take a train to San Diego and visit Old Town San Diego which is right next to the train station there.
Known as the Birthplace of California, the town dates back to the 1700’s
The Old Town is now a mixture of shops, museums, and restaurants.

Some of its residents are very old….
…and gnarly

The town had several markets….
…with a dizzying array Mexican culture colors.

The Cosmopolitan Hotel is a well preserved building in the town
We had lunch at Casa De Reys, an excellent Mexican Restaurant in the town.

It is Guy Fawkes Night in the UK today. No sign of him here of course, but we found loads of references to Day of the Dead which unfortunately we just missed.
Guy Fawkes is remembered with several references like Guy Fawkes Day, Guy Fawkes Night, The Gunpowder Plot, Fireworks Night etc…

The San Diego Union founded in 1868
We headed back to Oceanside mid-afternoon before the commuter rush (Google image).
