Our new lifestyle has definitely reduced our carbon footprint. Despite our Van’s MPG, we use far less pollutants than we did in a ‘Brick & Mortar’ home. We are not driving the Van every day / week, and our mobile home uses less of everything that is harmful, when compared to an average house.
However, there is for us a negative which is our current inability to consistently carry out our recycling duties.

For the last 20+ years we have made our best efforts to recycle plastic, aluminium, and paper whenever possible. In a house this meant paying a premium for our trash collection. In our apartment, we saved recycling and took it to the recycling facility in Elizabethtown.

Disposing of trash whilst traveling is much harder, and we often have to put plastic in the trash.
We are trying to buy products that sold in biodegradable packaging, but its a losing battle.
We are looking to add Solar Panels to our Van which will reduce our use of petrol on travel days since the system I have in mind will power the kettle, TV and the fridge; thus negating the need to fire up the generator.
Despite the foolhardy rhetoric that the Koolaid 30% like to use to excuse themselves, the truth is that if everyone contributed something, no matter how small, to helping our environment, we’d all benefit. Those benefits would far outweigh any minor inconvenience for us, and save the planet for the future.
